A True Convert

I'm reading a book right now (Christian Worldview For Students) and this was the first chapter. It challenged me!

A true convert admits she is a sinner. She does not believe she can go to heaven by being a “good” person. She understands her
own totally depravity. (1 John 1:8)
A true convert lives a life of obedience by keeping God’s commandments more often than breaking them. A true convert is not a habitual sinner. There’s a difference between stumbling into sin and jumping into it with both feet. While true converts may continue to sin as part of the struggle with sin nature, the life of a true convert is marked by a desire to pursue holiness and walk in obedience to God’s Word. (1 John 2: 3-6, 3:6, 5:2)
A true convert does not harbor hate for her brother but displays forgiveness, love, and compassion. (1 John 2:9, 2:11, 3:15, 4:16, 4:20)
A true convert does not love the world or the things of the world, nor the world’s system of evil, ruled by Satan. (1 John 2:15)
A true convert proclaims Jesus Christ as the Son of God and defends the exclusivity of Christ in a world of multiple religious systems. (1 John 4:15)
A true convert hopes and longs for the return of the Lord. (1 John 3:2-3)
A true convert desires to serve and help other Christians. (1 John 3:17, 3:14)
A true convert loves being with other believers and hearing the Word taught. (1 John 5:1)
A true convert rejects false teachings. (1 John 2:22-23)
A true convert remains in the truth and perseveres in the faith. (1 John 2:24)

Week in Steamboat Springs

This past week Mom got a phone call from her friend back in Tennessee. She, her husband, mom and dad hadn't seen each other on forever (9 years). When we lived in TN I went to pre-K with her son, Marlin. Anyways, they were in Steamboat Springs, CO for three weeks and wanted to see us! We hopped in the car and spent a few days with them!

All of the Rowan and Rosen kids:
Asher, Granger, Cade, Marlin, Me, Anna, Stephen, and Nathan

They took us to the lake... we had lots of fun!

We decided to push one another in the water.

Pre-school buddies... Falling into the lake, I got water all in my mouth and nose. :(

The Rowan's property is so beautiful!

Marlin, Cade, Me, and Anna

The Rowan's Cabin

The parent's catching up on nine years!

Nathan and Asher became best buddies!

Who will you be?

Matthew 25: 34-45

Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand,
Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink:
I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me:
I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed [thee]? or thirsty, and gave [thee] drink?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took [thee] in? or naked, and clothed [thee]? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done [it] unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done [it] unto me.
Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not:
sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungered, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you,
Inasmuch as ye did [it] not to one of the least of these, ye did [it] not to me.
And these shall go away into everlasting punishment:
but the righteous into life eternal.

...and that rock was Christ...

We are in CO, and tomorrow we get home (Windsor). On our way home we stopped at the Sand Dune National Park here in Colorado. I never thought so much sand could be in one place! Some of these dunes were 1,000 feet (we climbed that one!). We had a great day. As we were walking back to the parking lot, we were saying how fun it would be if we had our tent on top of the dunes. Then we said, "No, the sand shifts too much." We then walked onto the paved road and it reminded me of a rock. Nothing could move a rock! Suddenly the song popped into my head: "The wise man built his house upon the Rock and it stood... the foolish man built his house upon the sand and it fell." (Did I get that wrong?) Luke 6: 48 says:

'He is like a man which built an house, and digged deep, and laid the foundation on a rock: and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not shake it: for it was founded upon a rock.'

We need to have Christ as our foundation. Truth is a Rock, not shifting sand. Jesus is the Rock (I even have Scripture to prove it!).

'...and that Rock was Christ.'

We have a choice to choose Life or death. We want to choose Life, but a lot of times the enemy, Satan, dangles that juicy carrot that's full of poison called "the world" in front of us. We come up with little excuses to be like the World. "It's SO hard!" we say as we lay aside our Bible and pick up the TV remote. "Why can't I dress that way? They're my friends, so I should, too!" or "Can I miss church just once, dad? My friends and I..."

The book of James says "pure and undefiled religion is this... to keep oneself unspotted from the world." If we're Christians, then why are we wanting to creep towards the edge of the cliff (as Leslie Ludy puts it)? We need to hate the sin (world), and love the sinners. We need to want Life! We need to ask Jesus to invade the secret chambers of our hearts! We need Him!

...the great King above all gods...

To begin the 7th month of this year, I would like to praise Jesus with His own Word.

For the LORD [is] a great God, and a great King above all gods.
Ps 95: 3

Nevertheless for thy great mercies' sake thou didst not utterly consume them, nor forsake them; for thou [art] a gracious and merciful God.
Neh 9: 31

God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.
Job 37: 5

Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty.
Ps 104: 1
